Dennis L. Murphy, Ph.D., is the Managing Partner of Spatial Interest, LLC.

Dr. Murphy's interests span over forty years of work experience, including:

  • Land Use Planning:  Planner and Community Development Director for the municipality of Woodbury, MN
  • Research and development: in the field of decision support systems for natural resource management at i) USDA North Central Research Station, ii) USGS EROS Data Center, and iii) Potlatch Corporation.
  • Strategic Planning: as Business Development Manager for Potlatch Corporation's Resource Management Division.

As part of the business development role in a publicly owned company, Murphy managed a three phase forest conservation easement project, funded by the Forest Legacy Program and private donors.  The easements protect 55,000 acres of working forest in the St. Joe River Corridor of northern Idaho.  The Idaho Department of Lands, on behalf of the Public, received development rights, public access, and special management area restrictions.

Murphy's training and work experience provide the technology and resource background for  services offered to land stewardship collaborations.  Spatial Interest is the caretaker of  stewardship stories written by collaborations working to restore forest and range landscapes.  Social networking and web publishing technologies are implemented within a bundle of information management services.
